Introduction: To research the characteristics of visual field defects in patients with traumatic optic neuropathy, and to discuss the clinical significance of visual field in the diagnosis of optic nerve contusion. Materials and methods: Tested 24 patients / 48 eyes (including 19 males /38 eyesand 5 females /10 eyes) with optic nerve contusion, whose average agewas 38.38 years. They were divided into two groups named "eyes on the injured side" and "contra-lateral eyes" for visual field analysis. Results: The patients whose vision decreased in the injured side accounted for 8333%, and the contra-lateral eyes vision decrease accounted for 41.67%; while the patients with visual field defects in the injured side accounted for 100%, and visual field defects in the contra-lateral eyes accounted for 70 .83% . There was obvious diversity and complexity in the visual field defects. Conclusion: The visual field had great influence in the diagnosis of optic nerve contusion and had important significance in the diagnosis of optic nerve contusion.
