To study the distribution of ecNOS tandem repeat polymorphism in Kunming Han Chinese subjects and to investigate the association of ecNOS polymorphism with type 2 diabetes and the blood lipid. The ecNOS genotype was assessed in 212 unrelated Kunming Han Chinese subjects, including 132 patients with type 2 diabetes and 80 health controls. The ecNOS tandem repeat polymorphism was studied by PCR and to determine the TC, Trig,HDL-C and LDL-C in serum. Allele frequency of the 4a was 0.083 in Kunming Han Chinese subjects. Allele frequency of the 4a was 0.087 in type 2 diabetes and 0.075 in controls (P=NS). Serum triglyceride levels were significantly higher in subjects with the 4a allele[2.260 (1.805-3.640) vs: 1.656y1.605-2.163 ymmol/LyP=0.02] when compared to the homozygote 4b subjects. The enNOS gene is associated with higher triglyceride levels.
